Your assignment may require you to use only current and up-to-date information. It is always wise to check the publication date of any information source as information does change and become obsolete. . Do not just depend on Google to do this. There are many other sources and tools that you can use....

BOOKS  |  INTERNET  | PEOPLE & ORGANISATIONS

Books

There are various publications that contain collections of newspaper and magazine articles on major topics of interest. Look for these using the library catalogue e.g. "Issues in society";  "Viewpoints"; "Current Social Issues" or "Current Environmental Issues" (the last two titles are periodical publications)

NOTE: Bear in mind that books take longer to publish than newspapers or magazines, so the information will be older, and only on significant topics.

A subject search on any library catalogue will produce results that include magazine articles, videos, DVDs, talking books and websites, as well as books. If you do not know how to use the library catalogue, ask your friendly teacher librarian.

People & Organisations

  • Try phoning organizations, who may have brochures they can send you, or specialist libraries. Look up different associations and groups under ‘O’ for Organisations in the Yellow Pages.

  • Interviewing or surveying people can also be a fruitful source of current information.
