When you have worked out what you are looking for, you need some search strategies to locate the information.

Don't forget that information comes in many forms - in books, on videos or via computers, and even from people. You will use different search tools for different sources and for different purposes.

Be careful in your use of the Internet which, believe it or not, can be the slowest and most unreliable way to find information!

  • Where can I find the information I need?

  • What do I still need to find out?

  • What sources and equipment can I use?

  • How do I use those sources?

  • Who can suggest other sources?

Thinking and making decisions is something you will do throughout the research process. In this Locating stage you will be:

Info-glut or too much information can be a real problem. This makes it even more important to search strategically - learn how to use tools that allow you to search many different sources at once, such as your school library catalogue, use metasearch engines and social bookmarking sites on the internet etc:
